The Origami show developed out of an attraction to strong design, along with a lifelong fascination with the beautiful possibilities inherent in paper as a medium for the creation of art. The still life paintings featured in this show are done in oil and watercolor, and are based on folded paper designs. The Zodiac Animals series employs a watercolor depiction of each animal in the zodiac, supported by playful and imaginative collage elements that portray the animal in popular culture. The ink pieces have been created using a unique process that employs a completely spontaneous use of ink to make the marks, followed by a very deliberate process of composition to design each piece using the element of space. My fascination as an artist with this balance between the deliberate and the spontaneous is an integral part of all the pieces in this show, and is what I hope be able to share with my audience.
