Sketching and carving blocks on site in my backyard and local parks has given me a way to connect more deeply with the natural world. My technique has developed through spending time in nature seeking to capture the energy and spirit of a bird in its particular environment. Each block print is an original hand printed on Rives BFK paper using black ink. Once the ink is dry, I apply layers of transparent watercolor wash varying the color of the background and details within each print.
