Sarah Bak - Mountain Spoon Rest
Looking for a place to put that messy spoon while you are cooking up a storm? Maybe this spoon rest in a soothing wave pattern will help out. Hand thrown with porcelain and hand painted, this cute little dish can then be placed in the dishwasher for easy kitchen clean up.
Don’t need a spoon rest at the moment? This could easily double as a plate for a small snack.
A little bit of info about the process: After the pot is thrown with porcelain clay, the bottom trimmed of excess material and the handle is added, I paint the design on using underglazes while the clay is still damp. This is called the leather hard stage, and I love the sheen of the clay at this point in the process. Then, I carve through the painted areas with a special tool to create the white lines that you see within the design. Once it is fully dry, it is fired the first time, a clear glaze is applied and it is then fired the second time to a much higher temperature, approximately 2165 degrees. Each pot goes through approximately 24 steps and takes 3 to 4 weeks to complete.
